In Uganda, where abortion is illegal and sex education programs focus on abstinence, the estimated abortion rate was 54 abortions per 1,000 women in 2003. The rate in the U.S. was 21 per 1,000 women in 2003, and in Western Europe, where abortion is legal and contraception is widely available, the abortion rate was 12 per 1,000 women.

Making abortion illegal does not reduce the rate.
Keeping abortion safe and legal along with providing comprehensive sex education and free contraception reduces the abortion rate.

Pro-lifers: you’re doing it wrong.

Also, when women is used in the link and article, it should be referring to all individuals with a uterus.

Eugh I know, that’s the one bad thing about Guttmacher - it’s ciscentric. Even World Health Organisation is. Amnesty International is, too. In fact, I’ve yet to see a hugely popular pro-choice/reproductive health rights organisation that uses “uterus-bearers” instead of “women”.

That is really unfortunate. I do try my best to be trans-inclusive here, but sometimes my mind just slips. I will definitely do a happy dance when I see a major health organization say “uterus-bearers” instead of just “women,” for sure.
